Title: Variety of Seeds Disappearing?
Post by: admin on August 26, 2011, 11:17:48 AM
One of the 'unintended consequences' of large-scale farming is that the varieties of each food is becoming smaller.  This is one more reason to 'grow your own' in your own backyard!

It is a little "spendy" but check out www.emergencyseedbank.com!

23 non-hybrid varieties and 37,000 seeds packed in resealable foil packets in a sealed "tackle box".  It comes with a 35 page "growing guide" for the vegetables and a 24 page "seed saving guide".

I am also worried about the disappearing vegetable varieties ESPECIALLY non-hybrid types that you can continue with year after year by harvesting seeds.

I am going to experiment a little with seed harvesting in my next Spring garden.
