Title: January 19 - Allen - Howard Garrett Seminar
Post by: Frank on December 02, 2012, 11:51:57 AM
I'll be giving a half-hour presentation on "Soil Fertility and Plant Nutrition - Some Things To Think About and Questions To Ask Before You Plant".  Knowing what to plant; knowing what to do before planting and knowing what to do after planting are the keys to success!

Some of the questions raised will be: "What is 'Soil'?"  "Are there 'right' plants for your soil?"  "What is 'Fertilizer'?"  "Is there a world outside of N-P-K?"  "What are Micronutrients - Are they really that important?"  What about Trace Elements?"  "What are typical soil nutrient deficiencies?"  "Does the fertilizer you put down always end up in your plants?"  "Does the kind of fertilizer matter?"  "What is a 'Soil Test'?  Do you really need one?  Are all soil tests the same?"  "What is 'Water Quality' - Is it important?"   "Soil Life - What is it and is it important?"  "What about 'Organic Matter' and 'Compost" - are they identical?  What are they and what do they do?"  "Do your plants' nutritional demands change?"  "Do all plants have the same nutritional requirements?"  "Can we rapidly fix plant nutritional problems?"  "What is 'Balanced Nutrition' in plants - is it important?"  "Can we 'ask the plant' to measure its nutritional health?"   "Organic adjuvants - snake-oils or essentials - or both?"

Don't know how many of these we'll be able to get to (I'm gonna have to talk fast) and the brief discussions will be very short and incomplete.  The presentation is intended to only get the attendees thinking...

This will necessarily be a fast-paced presentation, but we'll have a table there with many of our practical papers on a variety of subjects and we'll be available to discuss some of these questions before and after the presentation.

Of course, our presentation will be just a very small part of the overall action-packed, very diverse event - there'll be something for everyone!
