Title: First time Gardener

Hello,
My name is Dustin and I'm just getting into gardening and hoping to get a fall garden started in the next month. I'll be starting from scratch so any helpful advise for my first garden would be greatly appreciated.
I have done some research and found planting calendars on this forum and the TAMU AgriLIFE Extension website. Any suggestions to what I should plant this first go around?
