Hi All -
My husband got bored one day a couple years ago, and the next thing I knew we were gardening. 👨🌾
We currently have ten Birdie's beds we use for growing food, several reclaimed pallet wood raised beds we built for ornamental plants (mostly), and a newly planted orchard of stone fruits and figs.
This will be our third summer season and I can't wait to get some seeds in the ground!
We are not fans of chemicals, so no pesticides or chemical fertilizers, but are not necessarily "organic." We enjoy making our own compost and use a no dig method type of gardening.
My biggest challenges so far are seed starting in trays and pests. No matter how hard I try, seed starting in trays never really goes well for me. I don't have a place to start things indoors, and am sure that is part of my problem, but I do alright with the direct sow and grow method for most things. I am not giving up trying to figure out the seed starting though. As for the pests, I don't mind sharing and I am confident as time goes on we will have more and more beneficial insects to balance things out.
I tend to like things a little wild and free. I use a chaos gardening technique whenever I can. I love the idea of planting food and herbs in with our ornamental plants so, looking to add more perennial edibles this year.
Thanks for welcoming us and happy growing!
Heidi
