Buying Seeds from big box stores
« on: January 23, 2011, 10:32:08 PM »
Home Depot, Walmart, or any of those stores order 'seed displays'.  They are not specific to any one area.  Guess what, things that thrive in the rest of the country cook in our Texas sun during the summer.

A similar problem exists when ordering from seed catalogs.  Most of them are located in regions that have very different climates than ours.  Many of the seed sales catalogs don't even test their own seeds or produce them onsite, they are just a middle man.

Based on the information I read in the book "Gardening when it Counts", I focus on these issues and usually order from Park Seed Co.

I've been happy with them so far.

A word of caution about ordering from Park Seed.  They are slow in the shipping department, and their economy shipping doesn't have package tracking.  My last order took over 2 weeks to get to me.
