Possible to get Master Gardener and keep my day job?
« on: March 29, 2011, 11:34:06 PM »
I'd really like to go through the Texas Master Gardener's program, BUT, it seems like it is only offered on one weekday, during the day for 13 weeks.

I have a job, and it would be almost impossible to take off 13 days!   Anyone know of a way to get the knowledge on weeknights and weekends?  (or do I have to wait until I'm unemployed or retired?)

I think I understand why they do this.  It is because they really need volunteers to man the phone bank.  They are more interested in retired folks than people who work all day.

Lotto tickets may be the key.  :)

Hi Brian -
Thanks for posting on my Blog.  Yes, I agree with you completely.  To the point I am P$$$$$ about the entire deal.  I finally gave up, and was able to get the Master Gardener Manual for California from California, and as I believe I mentioned on the podcast, I found the New Mexico Manual online.

I have taught myself the information in there so I don't need their silly piece of paper.  But yes, I am bugged our Taxes support an organization that makes it so difficult to participate in. We need all the knowledgable gardeners we can find.

The Master Gardener Program intent is very good, but unfortunately as you and I ( and others have discovered) their execution is terrible.

Thank you for listening and taking the time to post on  the blog, Brian.
