Hello all!  This is my first year to grow a garden and I have to say, I suck!  We are trying 4 x 4 raised 12" beds using the "Square Foot Gardening" method that I read in a book.  We are also growing only organic seeds, mostly heirloom, using only organic growing methods (i.e. no pesticides, no Miracle Gro, etc.)  Has anyone done this who might want to come to my house in Allen for a good meal and some great beer to tell me what the heck I'm doing wrong???  I would post pictures but I don't like getting laughed at ;-)

Stacie!  your post is too funny!  I was thinking the same thing today, but I just walked through the community garden area at the Fairview mall.  Out of all those beds (about 75 maybe) there was only 1 that I felt was growing better than my garden.  Before that little stroll, I was was pretty frustrated with myself.

I'm on year 3+ of serious gardening, and I'm not sure I have it figured out yet.

Did you fill your bed with 'Mel's Mix'?

I'm in Allen too (far east on Main), and I'll be happy to come drink your beer!

Hey,
Don't feel bad!  It may take up to 3 years before u can expect much.  Organic methods are for the long haul.  Sure, chemicals will get u there quickly, but then like all easy methods and drugs abuse, u are hooked and need more and more chemicals for the same results.  Build compost!  More and more compost!!  The farm where I learned my methods was strictly reliant on composted cow manure, farm  vegetable waste, and kitchen scraps as fertilizer.  The farmers did so well they vacationed in Hawaii every year!
The main thing is start small, don't overwork yourself, and grow some easy stuff to start like cucumbers and peppers. If u'd still like a visitor, email me here or @ kc0llie8971@sbcglobal.net.  That's a zero, not an o in collie, by the way. PLEASE!  Read my "Hello" message on this post.
