Just saying hi
« on: May 13, 2011, 06:52:58 PM »
Hello all. I've been familiarizing myself with this forum and thought I'd introduce myself. My name is Cara and I'm married to a fellow who likes gardening as much as I do -- and who is an incredibly hard worker.  :D

Our house is on 1/6ths of an acre in Arlington, TX and 80% of our backyard is garden, or something garden-related (like our multiple compost piles and our leaf bins). We are 100% organic, which has been fun. We bought our house 3 years ago and the previous owners were 100% synthetic chemicals, I think. There were no geckos, no lizards, no toads, and very few birds.

Now, we have anole lizards in abundance, geckos frolicking all around the house and yard, ladybugs aplenty, nice thick juicy worms in many places in the yard and garden (not just in the compost piles), and this year in addition to the blue jays, doves, and robins, we also have a few cardinals and I even saw a goldfinch.

This year, for the first time, we are planting in beds (not raised ones, but permanent beds nontheless) and incorporating flowers and companion planting. It's been a major paradigm shift but it's fun!

I have some pix that I think I will post. Just need to get that far.

Happy Gardening!
