Newbie intro
« on: August 23, 2011, 06:01:48 AM »
Hi, I'm Virg. I am so glad to find this group.  A friend had it on her facebook - so thanks Melissa!!

I am a fairly new gardener.  I have had raised beds for three years now, and really only used them in the spring/summer.  Didn't even do that this year, as there were other issues going on at the time.  Now I look like a genius! Nobody around me seems to be getting anything to grow. Even my CSA group called it quits til fall.

I need to get back into gardening for food much more seriously.  I just sent my one and only to college this week, and anything I can do to lower the food budget, and frankly, eat better, I need to do.  I have a half acre in a suburban neighborhood.  Right now its mostly grass. I hate grass.  Ideally I would like all veggie gardens and fruit trees/bushes. Nothing on the lot growing that I can't get food from.

I am hoping to learn a lot and make new friends.  Thanks to all for letting me join!  Virg

Welcome to the community Virg!   I just planted a fall garden, which I don't think I've done before.  I hope it works out OK, because I haven't got much production from my summer garden.

You have a good sized yard, lots of possibilities!

Hi my name is Gloria and I'm new to this forum.

I guess I need a little practice navigating because I'm not sure if this is where I'm supposed to introduce myself or if I'm pirating someone's thread.

I've been gardening since last spring and use small raised beds plus some self-watering containers.
I'm in an HOA, so everything must be landscaped.
With the heat, we've had some produce, but not as much as I'd like.

Thanks and I look forward to reading what about everyone's gardening experiences.
Gloria
