Dallas Newbie
« on: June 04, 2019, 12:15:56 PM »
Hi, everyone!

I'm a new-ish backyard gardener in the Lakewood area of Dallas.  Right now, I'm confined to a 10'x15' patch, but we're on half an acre, so the expansion plan over the next few years is pretty rad.  :)  I'll try to get some pictures up in the "Show us your Garden" thread.

Between the patch, pots and trees we have the following currently in the ground:
  • Okra
  • Cherry Tomatoes
  • Tomatoes
  • Corn
  • Eggplant
  • Squash
  • Zucchini
  • Pickling Cucumbers
  • Slicing Cucumbers
  • Strawberries
  • Jalapenos (Jumbo for poppers and heatless for the kids)
  • Bell Peppers
  • Gypsy Sweet Peppers
  • Pears (I *think* Bradford, but I need to get someone out to look at them.)
  • Pecans
  • Mulberries
  • Muscadine Grapes
  • Blackberries
  • Radishes
  • Various Herbs

We've had the chance to eat/cook with everything except the blackberries and grapes, which I picked up this spring as dormant vines.  We'll see what happens with those.  :)

Haven't had a chance with the pears yet, either.  We moved in last spring, and while there appeared to be a bountiful harvest, the squirrels got every single one!

Welcome to the forum tpampel!   You have a lot of things growing for sure.  Those blackberries will be putting out next year and you will be wondering what to do with all the fruit!
